Trying the the award winning clam chowder at Pike Place Chowder. As much as he is obsessed with clams, clam chowder was not his thing.

No trip is complete without a voyage into Starbucks – especially the First Starbucks.

We ventured over to the Fremont Sunday Market.

Artists, antiques, flowers, food and so much more.

Harry proudly bought this necklace with his own money.

All over Seattle there are the most brilliant, beautiful fresh flowers.

The Market had such a great selection of food including this yummy smores fish.

Check out this silly dog with a purple mohawk.

We ventured on a Fremont art hunt.

Cool Fremont architecture.

Fun Fremont signs.

And the infamous Fremont Troll.

Followed by a cruise over to Tillicum Village for a little culture.

Native American Art.

And clams.

Harry couldn’t get over the fact he was allowed to throw the shells.

And more clams. and more clams. At least 6 cups worth.

A beautiful show exploring the history and culture of the area.

Harry got to try on one of the masks.

Seattle in August.

Flying adventures

ahhh children.

Tasting fresh cherries at Pike’s Place Market.

On a scavenger hunt of Pikes Place Market with Stray Boots. Photo with Rachel the pig – mission accomplished.

Can’t resist a fortune teller. How could she possibly know his favorite color is green?

Harry had just impressed some native speaking Chinese with his Mandarin.

The scavenger hunt took us through a fabulous antique store. Hmmm….could it fit me?

( I sure felt old).

He was enamored with this phone. Oh, how times have changed.

What’s this? A phone with a cord?

A rat? No, just Harry. (This antique store provided hours of entertainment value.)

Don’t ask.

Surviving on iced coffee from Starbucks.

The Giant Prospector of Washoe Valley.

Thank goodness there is a candy store right next door. So many decisions.

Every flavor of salt water taffy you could ever imagine.

Must have that one.

Crossing beneath the infamous Reno sign.

Before we left, Harry wanted to rock climb the wall next to the Reno sign that reaches to the clouds. Warming up.

Starting the ascent.

And up.

Landing on the first leg of the journey.

That tiny purple speck is Harry about 1/2 way up the second leg. People were cheering from across the street. He climbed vertically about 115′ (that is 140′ from street level). Crazy!

Resting on the giant bike lock.

Some sore fingers after that adventure, but all smiles. I am so impressed he got as far as he did, there is no way I could ever do that.

What a great way to end the trip. Then, it was time for the long drive home.

Pastries, coffee and Rubik’s for breakfast at the famous Erick Schat’s Bakery.

There was a crazy bird who attacked anyone who walked by.

Stopping for a little fishing.

The fish weren’t biting so we moved on and had a picnic at Mammoth Lakes. Harry decided to try his hand a whittling.

And a game of Giant Jenga.

And a brilliantly placed park next door.

He always has to blow them out. Always.

road trip

We decided to make an adventure of our long road trip from San Diego to Reno. I found this brilliant website – Roadside America – the Guide to Uniquely Odd Tourist Attractions. (They also have an app.) Our fun stops broke up our trip in just the right ways, allowing time to stretch, catching a slice of Americana, seeing areas/people we might never have seen, random art and oddities and so much more. Off we go….

The car is packed.

Living Ghost Town in Randsburg. We met some really neat people here.

Harry gave a few Rainbow Loom bracelets he made. He looked in the take canister but decided not to take anything.

The final parts of our Costa Rican Adventures…..

Aren’t they cute when they sleeping?

The very elusive toucan.

Enjoying a new day at our fancy hotel in Guanacoste.

The kids had an evening to themselves and they all colored shirts. This is Harry’s version.

If you are last to arrive you must dance down the aisle to “Hakuna Matata”.

Off on snorkeling adventures.

He is either singing or pontificating.

And life is excellent with a virgin pina colada nearby.

Relaxing after a long day in the sun.

Enjoying my newly created mojito (from the mojito making class).

Trying to do some last minute stocking up on all things good Costa Rican – coffee and chocolate!!!

Not really ready to go home yet.

project life/365 – 10 (part four)

The adventure continued near the Arenal Volcano….

We were so lucky to see the top of the volcano as we were told it is a rare sight. Ready for zip lining. Almost 2 miles of zip line. Definitely not my thing but I was very proud to have made it through. Harry was too little (weight wise) to go by himself, not that he didn’t want to.Love the heliconia – the vibrant color, the unique shape. Postcards in the town of La Fortuna. Beautiful colored sarongs enticing shoppers and giving a flavor of the town. Mosaics everywhere. Painting gourds with indigenous Maleku tribe of Costa Rica. “Capy Capy” means a warm welcome. Lots of Marco Polo playing at the pool. Sunset over the Arenal Volcano. Enjoying the natural Hidalgo Hot Springs.
